LAST SWIM SATURDAY The Jayton Pool closed for the season Saturday. Meet the Jaybirds and Lady Jays was celebrated at the pool and stadium on Thursday, with JGISD students enjoying one last swim this year.
Described as “a moving photo album of ranch life in Texas in the mid-1970s,” “Mackintosh and T.J.” was shot in 1975 on various locations throughout West Texas, including the fabled 6666 Ranch, by Emmy-winning director Marvin J. Chomsky (“Roots,” “Holocaust,” “Inside the Third Reich”).
School has already started for area teachers and administrators. Much of this week at area schools will be devoted to staff training. However, JGISD classes get under way Thursday, Aug. 12.
ARGO FIRST ROAD UK-based cryptocurrency miner Argo Blockchain has been actively promoting their Helios site in Dickens County. Last week they took to Twitter to say, “Our first road has been carved out. Pictured is Argo’s Head of Design and Construction Matt Nackino (right) with Jeremy Hill, owner of the contracting company we hired to build out the property.”
Angela Ozborn Condron: I became very good friends of “TJ” Clay Cooper. He, his dad and mom roped with us while they were here. We got to watch some filming.
Brownies are a favorite at our house, like most, I would think. I experiment quite often, but I have my favorites. Most are so simple that I forget all about the days of buying a box of brownie mix. And it’s especially convenient to make them from scratch when you have a craving but don’t want to run to the store for a mix.
Herbs are flourishing in mid-August. It doesn’t matter if they are in containers or in the ground—herbs are really doing well. Now, what to do with all the herbs. Try making herb vinegars. They last for months and can be stored for later use.
