New books, new readers at the Spur library

The Texas Book Festival and the Texas Library Association have selected Dickens County Spur Public Library as a 2021 Texas Book Festival $1,500 Collections Enhancement Grant recipient.

COWBOY VINTAGE In conjunction with Saturday night’s showing of the remastered Roy Rogers film “Mackintosh and T.J.,” friends of Spur’s Palace Theater have offered up vintage cowboythemed items for a silent auction fundraiser. Items include a Roy Rogers and Trigger design “wild rag,” a western neckercheif, a Bucking Broncho game, and a celing lampshade.

Palace to show Roy Rogers' movie filmed in Dickens on Aug. 14

It was the summer of 1975, and Western superstar Roy Rogers was in Texas to film his last—and some would say his best— movie. “Mackintosh and T.J.” is a story of a cowboy drifter who helps a young boy make sense of the world.

Spur council to raise utility turn-on fees Oct. 1

On Monday and Friday afternoons, custom iced coffees are now available at the pharmacy in downtown Spur. For only $5 shoppers can try a caffeine concoction with a choice of caramel, chocolate, vanilla and whipped cream over ice while they sit a spell on one of the counter stools or pull up a seat at a table.
