Justin Dee McCormick died unexpectedly in Lubbock, Texas, on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at the age of 51. Justin was born on June 25, 1970 at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, to J.D. and Tommie McCormick. He graduated from Spur High School in 1988. He continued his education at a trade school to obtain his HVAC license. He married his best friend and the love of his life, Annette, on June 20, 1992. They moved to Afton, Texas, where he began helping his dad in the carpentry business. Over the next few years, they welcomed two beautiful daughters. Justin began working at White River Municipal

One of the most visionary organizations I’ve ever been associated with is the Texas Downtown Association, brainchild of the late Anice Read of Austin. As the first director of Texas Main Street (a program in which Spur was once the smallest city in the state to participate), Read realized early on that Main Street, with its rigorous requirements and selection process, would not be able to meet the needs of every city. Nonetheless, she bore witness that downtowns are the lifeblood and true heart of any community, of any size.
