Following the resignation of Judge Jack Bush, who is retiring out of state, the Spur city council met July 14 and hired Jan Blacklock Matthews as the municipal court judge effective immediately, with a start date to still be determined.

For months during the Covid-19 crisis, rural Dickens County had few confirmed virus cases, while Kent had none. On July 16, Dickens County doubled its incidence, to two. “The office of the Dickens County Judge was notified by Texas DSHS today of two recent COVID-19 positive test results indicating two active cases in the county,” read an official bulletin from the county. “One male approximately 48 yrs. old and one male approximately 18 yrs. old, are immediate family members living in the same household. The patients reside in the north unincorporated area of the county. Minimum public exposure in recent days was reported.”

Parsons of Spur awarded Duck Creek scholarship

The Duck Creek Soil & Water Conservation District #169 has awarded their scholarship for 2020–21 to Ethan Parsons, son of Shane and Charla Parsons of Spur and Crystal Kelley of Troy, Texas. This scholarship is available for all Dickens County seniors.
