I love all the versions, both sweet and savory, of the pullapart breads made in loaf pans and Bundt pans. The ones made with layers, or balls of dough—each one dipped in butter, then rolled in cheese, garlic, and pepperoni—make a fun dinner. And the loaves made with cinnamon and sugar remind me of the monkey bread my mom used to make.
Congratulations to all of the graduating seniors. The next chapter of your life is waiting for you to pick up the pen and write it. For those of you who graduated from Spur High School, welcome to the elite group known as the best exes in Texas!
We love June, with warming days that call us to get in the garden. With the arrival of June also expect to see June bugs. But before the annoying small brown, hard-shelled June bugs appear come the grub, the immature stage of the adult June bug. While they are known as June bugs, they are actually beetles—and what’s more, they can be called either the May or June beetle. For us today, they’ll be June beetles.
The Spur Senior Citizens Center, which provides hot meals on-site and via Meals on Wheels on weekdays for those 65 and over—and others—also serves as a popular, readily accessible gathering spot for many in the Spur community. It offers indoor recreation amenities and a comfortable seating area in a spacious building that once housed one of Spur’s grocery stores.
Following a process that began last summer to evaluate the condition and history of the Swenson Park swimming pool bathhouse, Spur city council voted last week to entertain bids for repair of the interior to provide usable public bathroom facilities for the city’s largest park.
