Springs of Life donates school supplies to library

A few weeks ago my husband and I were checking out all the great treasures at the Highway 70 garage sales. I found some new still-in-the-package pencils and notebook paper at one of the sales. I asked how much for the supplies and the seller said, “Aren’t you the lady from the library who does the school supply drive?”

State Senate honors memory of helicopter crash victims

On a Saturday last August three Texas Parks and Wildlife staffers conducting an aerial survey of bighorn sheep in Texas’s Big Bend country lost their lives when their helicopter crashed in the mountains. One of those was fish and wildlife technician Brandon White, who had grown up in Spur and whose parents still live here.

Big Dog BBQ Cook-off welcomes vendors, cookers; flings open doors for Saturday barn dance

With less than a month to go before the June 25–26 event, organizers of the 4th annual Big Dog BBQ Cook-off, along with Spur Area Chamber of Commerce volunteers, are pumping up the programming to welcome the public back to Spur’s Swenson Park in full force.

JGISD PUTTIN’ ON THE HITS 2021

From grade eight through graduating seniors—including a troupe of faculty—Jayton performers put on musical skits for the entertainment of a packed audience in the school auditorium May 5. The show ended with a sentimental tribute by the Class of 2021, who brought their many academic and athletic trophies for display. Results of audience voting: 3rd place to “That Boy Could Dance,” by the Junior Class; 2nd place to “I’ll Always Remember You” by the Senior Class; and top honors to the Faculty’s, “Jayton Faculty Rest Home.”
