Peanut butter bread has apparently been around since the 1930s. I can just imagine either of my grandmothers in the kitchen baking this, or learning how to make it from their mothers.

Kids’ Gardens, Part 2

A lifetime of enjoying the love of gardening can begin at a young age. I don’t remember the event, but my mother told me that when I was very young after eating a peach, I planted the seed in our backyard, which germinated and grew into a tree. That peach tree lived for probably 20 years and bore tasty fruit. I now know how unusual it is to have a peach tree bear delicious, edible fruit from a seedling. But that is how my mother credited my love for gardening, and I believed her. I do love gardening and take grandkids into the garden every chance I get.

New books, new readers at the Spur library

We didn’t have craft night this month. There was a great turnout and everyone seemed to have a great time at the diamond painting craft with Charlotte Sprayberry. There has been talk of doing it again. I would love to hear from anyone who would be interested in another diamond painting craft night. We have to plan ahead because the kits have to be ordered. If anyone has a craft they would like to share with the community, please contact me at the library to discuss the details.

PAGEANT WINNER

PAGEANT WINNER Chloe Tilton was crowned Miss Universal Texas Queen at the Our Little Miss pageant last weekend. Chloe also received eight medals, all 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, for the costume portion of the pageant, and she was also named runner-up in the “Livin’ Doll” competition of the pageant. Chloe is the daughter of Thomas and Trisha Tilton of Lubbock, granddaughter of Leo and Joan Day of Spur, Dana Tilton of Spur, and Tina Tilton of Amarillo. Chloe will represent the state of Texas in the World competition on July 7–14.

As of today, announced Lubbock-based broker Chas. S. Middleton and Son, the 6666 Ranch is under contract—for the first time in its history.
