I went into TC’s Ponderosa in Dickens this past weekend and besides my tasty barbecue sandwich I picked up a copy of “Texas Back Road Restaurant Recipes” by Anita Musgrove. They had the book prominently on the counter by the cash register opened to page 34 and 35 with a couple of spare copies beside it.
On Sunday evening the Kent County Lions Club provided a helpful public service— and a delicious meal—for community members interested in learning about candidates for the upcoming Jayton-Girard ISD school board election. A full house turned out for the first-ever such event at the Community Center, moderated by pastor, city council member, and Lions Club member Jake Edwards.
It was a cold, rainy Thursday morning when The Texas Spur received a tip that there had been a highway accident involving Jayton-Girard ISD vehicles traveling to the regional UIL One Act Play competition in Post.
On April 8, in what has become an anticipated tradition in Spur, the Spur Area Chamber of Commerce and The Texas Spur co-hosted a meet-the-candidates program for formal and informal discussion about the issues and opportunities facing all citizens.
GOLDEN EGGS These sharp-eyed kiddos spotted seven golden eggs hidden among some 350 others in Rickels Park and along Burlington Avenue on April 3, winning gift certificates for prizes donated by local merchants.
STATE BOUND Congratulations to David Reyna of Patton Springs ISD, who placed 3rd in the UIL Academics Regional Mathematics competition and is going to State. Congratulations also go to the Mathematics team of Reyna, Kinley Chandler and Melania Ramirez. They are the Regional runners-up team and are alternates to State.
Nazareth High School won the Region 1A Academic UIL competition Saturday, April 17 at Lubbock Christian University with 243 points, but only 8 points separated the number two team, Borden County, at 165, from the third place team, Guthrie at 157. Jayton finished fifth with 113.
