It’s been nearly sixty years since St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Spur had any substantial fix-up to its building. And now it’s happening all in a matter of days.
HEADED TO STATE Brynn Yanez and Katherine McGee of Jayton and Jorden Zarate and the Spur boys relay team all qualified for State at the Regional track meet last week at South Plains College. Bucki Smith of Spur and David Reyna of Patton Springs later in the week were named wild card advancers (see inside) and will also compete at State in Austin May 6-8.
Layne Sheets, current superintendent of the Dawson Independent School District in Welch, Texas, has been named the new superintendent for Jayton-Girard ISD. His first day will be Monday, May 3, and he was the sole finalist for the position.
Dickens County Sheriff Terry Braly provided details on two break-ins in Spur last week, one of which involved theft of a federal agency’s pickup truck from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. The break-in and theft were discovered to morning of Wednesday, April 21.
For weeks candidates for contested races for Spur city council and Spur ISD and Jayton ISD have campaigned, attended town hall meetings and put out yard signs or literature, but now the time has come to vote.
